Shizuoka Sengen Jinja, actually a complex of three shrines (Kanbe Jinja, Sengen Jinja, and Oyashiro) in Shizuoka City, is one of the largest and most architecturally impressive shrine complexes in eastern Japan. The complex features 26 structures designated as Important Cultural Properties, including Japan's tallest wooden worship hall (haiden) at 25 meters. Founded in the early Heian period, the shrines have received imperial patronage and served as the spiritual center of Suruga Province for over a millennium.

Sengen Jinja moved to its current site during the early Heian period, establishing the present shrine complex.
1804
Major reconstruction of the shrine buildings begins under Tokugawa shogunate patronage, resulting in many of the current ICP-designated structures.
