Its formal title "Shimomiya" (lower shrine) reflects its historical position as the lower counterpart on the Yoshida climbing route to Kitaguchihonju Fuji Sengen Shrine. The shrine is a Beppyo shrine of the Association of Shinto Shrines and preserves an ancient hoofprint divination rite (uma-no-hizume uranai) recognized as a Yamanashi Prefecture intangible folk cultural property, performed each September 19.
