Tsubaki Grand Shrine is the head of over 2,000 shrines dedicated to Sarutahiko-no-Okami, the deity who guided the grandson of Amaterasu during his descent from heaven to earth. As such, Sarutahiko is revered as the divine guide who shows the way on all paths in life. The shrine also enshrines Ame-no-Uzume-no-Mikoto, the goddess of performing arts who famously danced to lure Amaterasu from the heavenly cave. She is the wife of Sarutahiko in mythology.
