Primordial deity of divine creation and spiritual generation

À propos

Kamimusubi is the third of the three primordial creator deities (Zoka Sanshin). While Takamimusubi is associated with heavenly authority, Kamimusubi has a closer connection with earthly deities. Notably, in the Kojiki, it is Kamimusubi who sends Sukunahikona to assist Okuninushi in building the terrestrial realm, and who twice resurrects Okuninushi after his brothers' attempts to kill him.

This nurturing, restorative quality distinguishes Kamimusubi from the more commanding Takamimusubi. Some scholars have suggested that Kamimusubi represents a feminine creative principle complementing Takamimusubi's masculine one, though the texts do not explicitly assign gender to either.

Kamimusubi's active support of Okuninushi—an earthly deity—during the period before the Kuniyuzuri represents a theological puzzle, as it shows one of the highest deities aiding the side that will eventually be asked to cede power.
