Yohashira Shrine in central Matsumoto, Nagano Prefecture, enshrines four of the most powerful creator deities in Shinto — Amenominakanushi, Takamimusubi, Kamimusubi, and Amaterasu — giving it a reputation as a shrine where all wishes are granted. The name "Yohashira" (四柱) literally means "four pillars," referencing the four divine beings. Established in 1879 on the banks of the Metoba River near Matsumoto Castle, the shrine was visited by Emperor Meiji in June 1880 and has since been a beloved landmark in the heart of the castle town.
