Takeda Jinja in Kofu, Yamanashi Prefecture, enshrines the legendary warlord Takeda Shingen (1521–1573), one of Japan's most celebrated Sengoku-period commanders. The shrine was established in 1919 on the site of Tsutsujigasaki Yakata, the former headquarters of the Takeda clan. Shingen's famous battle standard — bearing the motto "Swift as the wind, silent as a forest, fierce as fire, immovable as a mountain" (Furinkazan) — is closely associated with this site.
