Nangu Taisha (南宮大社) in Tarui-cho, Gifu Prefecture, is the ichinomiya (chief shrine) of former Mino Province and the national head shrine for the veneration of Kanayamahiko-no-Mikoto, the Shinto deity of mining, metalworking, and the forging arts. The shrine is documented from 836 CE and listed in the Engishiki (927) as a Myojin-taisha. The existing shrine buildings, including structures designated Important Cultural Properties, date to 1642 — rebuilt under the patronage of Shogun Tokugawa Iemitsu after the shrine was completely destroyed during the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600.
