Kanayama Megami Shrine
Nangu Taisha (南宮大社) in Tarui-cho, Gifu Prefecture, is the ichinomiya (chief shrine) of former Mino Province and the national head shrine for the veneration of Kanayamahiko-no-Mikoto, the Shinto deity of mining, metalworking, and the forging arts. The shrine is documented from 836 CE and listed in the Engishiki (927) as a Myojin-taisha. The existing shrine buildings, including structures designated Important Cultural Properties, date to 1642 — rebuilt under the patronage of Shogun Tokugawa Iemitsu after the shrine was completely destroyed during the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600.
First historical mention in the Shoku Nihon Koki (Jogan 2).
Listed in the Engishiki as a Myojin-taisha (Fuwa District, Mino Province).
