Seoritsu Hime is one of the four deities named in the Great Purification liturgy (Oharae no Kotoba). She is described as sweeping away sins and impurities into the sea. In later traditions she was sometimes identified as a manifestation of Amaterasu or associated with the water goddess Mizuhanome. She is not mentioned in the Kojiki or Nihon Shoki but appears in Engishiki liturgical texts.
