Tsurugi Jinja in Echizen, Fukui Prefecture, is the ninomiya (second shrine) of the ancient Echizen Province and one of Japan's most venerable sanctuaries. The shrine's great bronze bell, cast in 770 CE, is designated a National Treasure — one of the oldest existing bells in Japan. Legend connects the shrine's founding to the legendary swordsmith deity, and it is also known as an ancestral shrine of the Oda clan, including the warlord Oda Nobunaga.
