Hotaka Shrine
Hotaka Jinja venerates the majestic peaks of the Northern Japan Alps, particularly Mount Hotaka (3,190 m), which is the third-highest peak in Japan. The main shrine (Honsha) stands in Azumino, Nagano Prefecture, while the Okumiya inner sanctuary at the mountain's base and the Summit Shrine (Oku-no-in) at 2,909 m complete the three-site complex. Listed in the Engishiki (927 CE), Hotaka Jinja is regarded as the third shrine (sanmiya) of Shinano Province and a spiritual guardian of the Japan Alps.
Listed in the Engishiki as a Shikinaisha shrine of Shinano Province.
