Ishizuchi Hiko no Mikoto is the divine spirit of Mt. Ishizuchi (1,982 m), the highest peak in western Japan, located in Ehime Prefecture. The mountain has been a sacred site for mountain worship (sangaku shinko) and Shugendo ascetic practice since ancient times. The deity embodies the awe-inspiring power of the mountain and is venerated for protection and spiritual purification.

Ishizuchi Jinja at the mountain's summit is the main shrine, with a lower worship hall at the foot of the mountain. The annual mountain opening (yama-biraki) ceremony in July marks the season when climbing is permitted for ordinary worshippers.
