Yaegaki Shrine in Matsue, Shimane, enshrines Susanoo and Kushinadahime — the divine couple whose mythological marriage is celebrated here. According to tradition, after slaying the eight-headed serpent Yamata no Orochi, Susanoo built a bridal hall at this site for Kushinadahime. The shrine is enormously popular for en-musubi (matchmaking and romantic connections), and the Mirror Pond fortune-telling ritual — floating a paper prayer on water to divine the timing of love — draws visitors from across Japan.
