Sumiyoshi Shrine in Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi, is one of Japan's Three Great Sumiyoshi Shrines and the ichinomiya of Nagato Province. It enshrines the Sumiyoshi Sanjin — three sea-guardian deities — along with Onakatsu-hime and Jingu-kogo. Its main hall, built in 1370 and designated a National Treasure, is composed of five individual halls connected in a unique linked arrangement found nowhere else among Sumiyoshi shrines.
