Sugou Isobe Shrine
Sugou Isobe Shrine
ภาพรวม
Sugou Isobe Shrine is one of the oldest shrines in Kaga Province (modern Ishikawa Prefecture), traditionally founded in 585 CE to appease a plague that threatened the imperial court. Listed in the Engishiki (927 CE) as a minor shrine, it served as the Second Shrine (ninomiya) of Kaga Province for centuries. The shrine's devotional traditions blended with Tenjin worship during the medieval period, when the Kitano Tenmangū held domain rights over the area. A small Tenjin shrine on the grounds — known as "Shikiji Tenjin" — reflects this Buddhist-Shinto syncretic heritage. The shrine is best known for the annual Otake-wari Festival (bamboo-splitting ritual) on February 10, designated an Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Ishikawa Prefecture.
