Nagano Gokoku Shrine was established in November 1938 to enshrine the spirits of Nagano Prefecture natives who died in national service from the Meiji Restoration through the end of World War II. It was formally redesignated a Gokoku Shrine in March 1939, with the main hall completed in 1942. The shrine received an imperial visit from Emperor Showa and Empress Nagako in May 1964, and is located in Matsumoto City's Misuzu district.
