Tokugawa Nariaki (1800–1860) was the ninth lord of Mito domain and one of the most influential political figures of the late Edo period. A passionate advocate of sonnō jōi (revere the emperor, expel the barbarians), he opposed the opening of Japan to foreign trade and was placed under house arrest by the shogunate for his activities. Father of Tokugawa Yoshinobu, the last shogun. He is co-enshrined with Mitsukuni at Tokiwa Jinja in Mito.
