Uesugi Shrine in Yonezawa, Yamagata, enshrines Uesugi Kenshin — the celebrated 16th-century warlord known as the 'Dragon of Echigo' — renowned for his military brilliance, strict Buddhist faith, and chivalric code. The shrine was formally established in 1876, though Kenshin had been venerated in the region long before.
