Takase Shrine
Takase Jinja in Tonami, Toyama Prefecture, is traditionally regarded as the ichinomiya (chief shrine) of the ancient Etchu Province. The shrine enshrines Okuninushi-no-Mikoto and traces its founding to the Nara period, with the earliest documentary evidence dating to 780 CE in the Shoku Nihongi. Known locally as "Takase-sama," it has been the spiritual center of the Tonami Plain for over twelve centuries.
First recorded in the Shoku Nihongi, confirming the shrine's existence in the Nara period.
Listed in the Engishiki compilation as a Shikinaisha shrine.
