Shizuoka Gokoku Shrine
Shizuoka Gokoku Shrine was originally established in November 1899 as a spirit-inviting shrine (shokonsha) in central Shizuoka City to honor the war dead of Shizuoka Prefecture from the Meiji Restoration onward. It was officially redesignated as a Gokoku Shrine on April 1, 1939, and relocated to its current site in Yunoki, Aoi Ward, in 1942. The shrine now enshrines over 76,000 war dead and those who died in service, covering conflicts from the Meiji era through the end of the Pacific War.
Founded as Kyosai Shokonsha in central Shizuoka City (November 13, Meiji 32).
Officially redesignated as Shizuoka-ken Gokoku Jinja (April 1, Showa 14).
Relocated to present site in Yunoki, Aoi Ward.
