Samukawa Shrine
Samukawa Shrine in Samukawa, Kanagawa, is the ichinomiya of Sagami Province and Japan's only shrine dedicated to Samukawa Daimyojin — the deity of protection from all eight compass directions (happo-yoke). The shrine's unique blessing of warding off misfortune from every direction has made it one of the most sought-after shrines for disaster prevention and purification. Approximately two million visitors gather here for hatsumode (New Year's worship), making it one of the largest in the Kanto region.
