Oarai Isosaki Shrine
Oarai Isosaki Shrine in Oarai, Ibaraki, enshrines Okuninushi and Sukunahikona, two deities associated with medicine, healing, and the founding of the land. Founded in 856 according to both traditional and documented records, the shrine is renowned for the Kamiiso-no-Torii — a dramatic torii gate standing on sea-washed rocks in the Pacific Ocean, making it one of the most photogenic sacred sites in the Kanto region, especially at sunrise. The current shrine structures were rebuilt by Tokugawa Mitsukuni, the lord of the Mito domain.
The shrine became a pilgrimage site for fans of the anime 'Girls und Panzer,' which is set in a fictional version of Oarai.
