Isasumi Shrine
Isasumi Shrine in Aizumisato, Fukushima, is the ichinomiya of Iwashiro Province and the general guardian shrine of the Aizu region. It enshrines the creator deities Izanagi and Izanami alongside two additional deities, and is attributed a history of over 2,000 years. As the shrine of the divine couple who created the Japanese islands, it is especially revered for blessings of marriage, matchmaking, and family harmony, drawing worshippers from across the Tohoku region.
The name 'Aizu' itself is said to derive from the meeting of two generals near this shrine, as recorded in shrine tradition.
