Ikukunitama Jinja (also known as Ikutama-san) in Osaka is one of the oldest shrines in Japan and is considered by some scholars to be the original "Naniwa Grand Shrine" of the ancient capital. Enshrining Ikukuni-Tama-no-Mikoto (the spirit of the land of Naniwa) and Tarushima-Tama-no-Mikoto, the shrine has been revered as a guardian of Osaka's townspeople since ancient times. The Autumn Festival (Tama-de Matsuri) is one of Osaka's three great festivals, featuring a grand night procession of over 400 participants.
