Ikonahime Shrine
Ikonahime Shrine sits on the Shirahama coast at the southern tip of the Izu Peninsula, an ancient sacred site dating back to the pre-Nara period. As a Myojin-taisha listed in the Engishiki, it held the highest ritual status among Izu Province shrines. The enshrined deity, Ikonahime-no-Mikoto, is regarded as a consort of Mishima Myojin and a protector of the seas around Izu.
The shrine sits near Shirahama Beach, one of the most popular beaches in the Izu area, making it a popular stop for summer visitors.
