Sakai Tadakatsu (1587–1662) was a powerful Senior Councilor (roju) under the third and fourth Tokugawa shoguns. The Sakai clan was one of the most powerful fudai (hereditary) daimyo families, and Tadakatsu served as head of the roju council, effectively one of the most powerful men in Japan for decades.
