About
Prince Kanenaga (1329–1383) was a son of Emperor Go-Daigo who was sent to Kyushu as the Southern Court's military commander. Allied with Kikuchi Takemitsu, he won remarkable victories and controlled much of Kyushu for decades, receiving diplomatic missions from the newly-unified Ming dynasty in China. He is enshrined at Shotai-ji and Kinzan Jinja in Kumamoto.
