About
Nabeshima Naomasa (1814–1871) was the tenth and last lord of Hizen (Saga) domain, famous as one of the 'Four Wise Lords' of the bakumatsu era. He modernized Saga's military technology, including building Japan's first operational reverberatory furnace and producing cast-iron cannon. His domain provided key technological support for the Meiji Restoration. He is enshrined at Yutoku Inari Shrine and other Saga sites.
