Matsudaira Sadanobu (1759–1829) was the lord of Shirakawa domain and Senior Councilor (roju) of the Edo shogunate who led the Kansei Reforms (1787–1793), a series of conservative measures to counter the economic and social disruption of the late Edo period. He restricted foreign learning, enforced austerity, and attempted to revive traditional samurai values. Despite mixed results, his reforms influenced subsequent Tokugawa policy.
