About

Amenohohi no Mikoto was born during the 'exchange of pledges' (ukehi) between Amaterasu and Susanoo. Amaterasu sent him as the first emissary to negotiate with Okuninushi for the transfer of the earthly realm. However, he became enamored with Okuninushi's domain and never returned, failing in his mission. His son Takezunami was later sent but also failed. He is the ancestor of the Izumo no Kuni no Miyatsuko lineage and the Tenjin-Chigi (Heavenly Envoy) tradition of Izumo Taisha.
