The ichinomiya of Rikuchu Province, Komagata Shrine has a 1,500-year history connected to the horse-breeding traditions of northern Honshu. Originally located atop Mount Komagatake, the shrine was moved to Mizusawa in 1903 for accessibility. Both Sakanoue no Tamuramaro and the Fujiwara of Oshu paid reverence here.
